Hanover teachers picket at John Diefenbaker School

Teachers at John Diefenbaker Senior School in Hanover are on the picket lines.

They're joining thousands of their counterparts across the province in a contract dispute with the provincial government.

Samantha Watson, the Bluewater board's president of the Occasional Teachers Bargaining Unit, said the one-day walkout is to ensure students aren't harmed by the dispute.

"It doesn't affect the students' learning. It's just like a snow day. It's not like we're out for a prolonged period of time actually affecting their classes and education. We just want the government to know that we really care about our students and the cuts that they're proposing are not acceptable."
