Gun seized after driver found passed out in ditch

A South Bruce Peninsula man has been charged after police seized a firearm from a vehicle that officers discovered in a roadside ditch.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on December 13, at around 5:50 p.m., officers were called the area of Allenford Road near Parkhead Road in the South Bruce Peninsula after a white truck crash into the ditch. The driver was found to be asleep behind the wheel.

Officers noticed a firearm and some ammunition in the vehicle and the driver was arrested for breaching a firearms prohibition order.

As a result, 35-year-old Shawn Ball of South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of firearms storage regulations.

He has been released on a promise to appear in an Owen Sound court on January 23, 2020.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
