Local hockey team celebrated for fundraising efforts

A local youth hockey team was celebrated for their Christmas spirit last week.

Brockton Council welcomed and congratulated the Walkerton Capitals PeeWee Rep team for raising money at a hockey fundraiser weekend for the new residential hospice project. Head Coach Scott Bowman says the team raised $2,750.

"Their fundraising efforts included hockey socks for hospice, a chuck-a-puck at the Walkerton Hawks game, and also serving 150 people for breakfast on the Sunday morning of Walkerton Hockey Day."

The team came to pose for a photo with council and staff at last week's meeting, and Bowman says the efforts were part of the team's bid for this year's Good Deeds Cup. Coach Bowman says he's totally thrilled with what the kids accomplished.

"These kids, I haven't had the chance to coach a lot of these kids, and they're a great bunch of boys, young men, and they did a great job with their fundraising efforts."
