Arson arrest in Port Elgin

Charges have been laid against a Port Elgin man following a house fire earlier this week.

The blaze broke out early Tuesday morning in a Century Drive residence in Port Elgin. Everyone got out safely, but it took Saugeen Shores firefighters several hours to get the fire out.

The damage was extensive and an investigator with the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office determined that fire had been deliberately set.

Saugeen Shores police have since arrested a Port Elgin man and charged him with arson, trespassing by night, and obstructing police.  He was remanded in custody for a bail hearing.

The arson case is still under investigation.
