Residents and business owners in Brockton can help determine if there is interest in natural gas in rural parts of the community.
The municipality is launching a survey conducted by Innovative Research Group through telephone interviews from January 13-19.
Residents within the targeted sample area for the survey will be receiving a letter in the mail this week. Feedback from the survey will be an important factor should natural gas providers look at partnering with Brockton to bring natural gas to rural areas in the municipality.
The survey is a planning step to determine community interest and to have data available regarding servicing Brockton.
Innovative Research Group previously surveyed residents of Kincardine, Arran-Elderslie and Huron-Kinloss to determine their interest in converting their home heating and water systems to natural gas.
EPCOR is currently building a natural gas delivery system to service these communities in South Bruce, with the main service line running through Brockton.
“This is a critical juncture in the provision of natural gas to the rural areas of Brockton,” said Mayor Chris Peabody. “Council is committed to delivering natural gas, to reduce energy costs and enable our agricultural businesses to remain competitive. Participation in this telephone survey will be key.”
The Ontario Energy Board is collecting information about natural gas expansion opportunities across Ontario and will deliver a report on eligible projects for the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines by August 2020.
The government will then make a final decision on future expansion projects eligible to receive financial support through the Natural Gas Expansion Program.
