SIU investigating OPP arrest in Ripley

The arrest of a Kincardine man earlier this week is now the subject of a probe by the province's Special Investigations Unit.

On Monday night, the South Bruce OPP detachment received a report of an intoxicated person causing property damage and disturbance in Ripley. Witnesses detained the individual until officers arrived and took him into custody.

A 21-year-old Kincardine man was charged with causing a disturbance, uttering threats, resisting peace officer, assaulting police, and four counts of breach of probation.

The accused was later transported to hospital for medical assessment for a reported injury.

The OPP notified the Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked its mandate and investigating the circumstances of the arrest.

No further details have been released at this time.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
