Owen Sound MRI fundraising campaign gets million dollar donation

The Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation reached the $4.7 million fundraising goal for a new MRI thanks to a million-dollar private donation.

The foundation said on Tuesday the donation came from an anonymous local family in "recognition of the great care they have received at Grey Bruce Health Services."

"It's an honour for our family to support this important piece of medical equipment. We have enjoyed living in this community, and we are grateful and proud we have an opportunity to give back," a family representative said in a news release.

It's the largest single donation from a family or individual received by the foundation.

Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Gary Sims said they will have the MRI installed and running by this summer.

Five foundations spent just under two years working on raising the $4.7 million needed. Those foundations are the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation, Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation, Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, Meaford Hospital Foundation, and the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation.
