Midwestern

Teacher strikes might affect midwestern Ontario this week.

Looming labour disruptions by Ontario's largest teacher's union have thousands of parents of school-age kids scrambling.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario has announced a full withdrawal of services on Thurs Jan 23 for the Avon Maitland District School Board.

This means that ALL students in grades k-8 will not attend classes that day. This includes 7/8 students in secondary schools.

Meantime, Ontario's English Catholic teachers plan to hold one-day strikes on Tuesday. In the event that a strike does take place, all classes will be cancelled at all catholic elementary schools and all catholic secondary schools in midwestern Ontario.

All four major teachers' unions are now engaged in legal job actions as contract talks with the province appear to have stalled.
