Rotating teachers' strikes will impact local area

Local school boards will be affected by teachers' strikes this week.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers' Association is withdrawing services province-wide on Tuesday. That means all Catholic elementary and secondary schools will be closed across Huron, Perth, Bruce, Grey and northern Wellington.

Rotating strikes by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario will also affect the area this week.

The ETFO job action will affect elementary schools in the Avon-Maitland District School Board on Thursday and the Bluewater District School Board on Friday.

At the public secondary level, the OSSTF walkout tomorrow in some parts of the province will not affect the local area and will be the last full withdrawal of services by their members until after exams.

OSSTF President Harvey Bischof said throughout the dispute, members have made every effort to ensure the job actions create minimal disruption for students.

He also reiterated the federation’s standing offer to postpone pending job action if the government agrees to return to, and maintain, the class size ratios and staffing levels that were in place during the 2018–2019 school year.
