OPP release video about 2010 murder

The gruesome murder of 42-year-old nurse Sonia Varaschin sent shockwaves through Orangeville in 2010.

The OPP has now released a video in hopes of moving the investigation forward.

Varaschin's white Toyota Corolla was found abandoned in Orangeville behind the town hall on August 30, 2010. There was blood found on the car and in her house on Spring Street.

Her body was found five days later in a wooded area on Beech Grove Sideroad east of St. Andrews Road in Caledon.

Fulltime investigators continue to be assigned to the case. The cause of death has not been released.

DNA samples were collected, but have not led to the identification of a suspect. New software is helping make the DNA profile more accurate.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
