New construction in Minto hits record value

New construction in Minto hit a record value of $37 million in 2019, almost double the 10-year average.

There were 203 building permits issued in 2019 which includes 29 agricultural permits worth $6.2 million and 61 residential permits worth $19.6 million.

Of the 61 residential permits issued in 2019, 12 were in the former Minto Township, 10 in Clifford, 12 in Harriston and 27 in Palmerston.

Minto’s Chief Building Official Terry Kuipers is predicting a strong building year in 2020.

He told council that the month of January usually sees four or fewer permits, but during January 2020, 15 permits were issued.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
