Owner Betty Marshall says they will be reducing excessive noise, sounds and other stressors to make for a more accessible shopping experience "for those with autism and other sensitivities".
Marshall notes that other locations have tried the idea recently and have received very positive feedback.
Sensory-friendly shopping will take place at Foodland every Thursday from 6-8pm.
Staff from the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic School Board attended a seminar in conjunction with local police and support services to learn about Violence Threat Risk Assessment (VTRA) training.

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.
Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
