Schools in Avon-Maitland, Bluewater affected by strike

Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation are holding rotating strikes across the province and it affects schools in the Avon Maitland District School Board.

All schools are closed to students on Thursday.

OSSTF represents not only teachers but also education support staff professionals, which includes education assistants, early childhood educators, child and youth workers, technical resource assistants, information technology workers and office staff.

District 8 OSSTF President Shane Restall said approximately 1,000 personnel will picket in various areas including Blyth, Market Square in Stratford and the Avon Maitland District School Board Education Centre in Seaforth.

In the Bluewater District School Board, schools are closed to elementary students due to a rotating strike by the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario.

Next week, all four unions representing teachers and education support staff will hold a day of action on February 21. Local school boards, public and Catholic, will close all schools to students that day.
