Weekend fire totally destroys home, investigation still active

More information has been made available regarding a house fire this past Sunday night near Rostock.

On February 16 just after 6 pm, Perth East fire crews from Milverton and Sebringville, along with North Perth fire support from Monkton, arrived at a fully engulfed home on Perth Road 135 just north of Rostock.

The occupants got out safely with a pet cat, but unfortunately, a dog perished in the blaze. The home was a complete loss, with damage estimated at $425,000. The cause is still undetermined.

Fire investigators are reminding everyone to ensure they have working smoke detectors, as a neighbouring property was found to have theirs not installed. Residents with chimneys should also ensure they clean and properly maintain their chimneys.
