Nominations for Volunteers of the Year closing soon in Owen Sound

Owen Sound residents have until the end of the week to nominate someone for the Volunteer of the Year, Youth Volunteer of the Year and Senior of the Year award.

For over 40 years, the City of Owen Sound has been recognizing volunteers from community groups and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in the city.

Nominations for 2020 Senior of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Youth Volunteer of the Year are open until Friday, February 21, 2020. Forms can be obtained on the city’s website or hard copies are available at City Hall.

The selection committee consists of the Community Services Committee who evaluate applications, taking into consideration the guidelines laid out in the award criteria. The winners will be presented their awards prior to a council meeting.

Award winners in 2019 included Joan Hawksbridge – Volunteer of the Year, Don McMillan – Senior of the Year and Ryan Brown – Youth Volunteer of the Year.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
