Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority issues flood message for shoreline

Another warning about flooding and erosion for shoreline residents has been issued as the wind begins to pick up.

The Texas low-pressure system that's bringing heavy snowfall and squalls to the area over the next few days will also see high waves battering the Huron shoreline.

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority issued a flood message Wednesday morning, telling shoreline residents there will be freezing spray coating everything near the shore with ice, increased erosion of the bluff, and flooding in low-lying areas.

Because the storm is expected to last more than 24 hours, the conservation authority says it could be "a potentially higher impact event."

Residents are reminded to stay away from the top of the bluffs even after the storm is over because "there may be a delay between erosion at the toe of the bluff and subsequent bluff failure."
