Listowel woman to celebrate her 108th birthday

A Listowel woman turns 108 tomorrow and may have inherited her good genes.

Dorothy Hartman's grandfather lived to 104-years old  and her father to 100. Hartman was born in 1912 in Howick Township.

She is the 32nd oldest person in the country. And she agreed to be part of The New England Centenarian Study based out of Boston's University. The goal is to help pinpoint what helps people live long lives and even to develop treatments for age-related diseases.

A birthday party is planned for Saturday at her home at Carressant Care in Listowel and when staff asked her how old she would be on her birthday, she told them, "I'm going to be old enough to know better but young enough not to care."

She is the third youngest of nine children and farmed with her husband Roy in Gowanstown.

She raised three children and has nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
