Arson investigation underway after Clinton house fire

An arson investigation is underway in Clinton following an early morning fire that has destroyed a family home and claimed the lives of three pets.

At around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, Central Huron Fire Department and Huron OPP responded to a house fire located on Rattenbury Street West. The Central Huron Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the property, however, the home is considered to be a complete loss and two vehicles that were in the laneway also sustained significant damage.

The lone resident of the home was able to make it out safely, but her three dogs perished in the blaze.

A damage estimate has not been released and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Members from the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police Crime Unit & Forensic Identification Services Unit responded to the scene to assist the Office of the Fire Marshal with the investigation.

Investigators are seeking tips from the public to help with this investigation.
