Early morning fire destroys local business west of Dorking

An early morning fire has destroyed a local business.

Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson confirmed Monday morning that just after 2 a.m., Mapleton Fire Rescue received the call about the fire at Country Sisters on Wellington Line 86 just west of Dorking. The call was made by a driver passing by, as well as a neighbour of the property.

Drayton and North Perth Fire crews also attended the scene with local police, who closed the roadways surrounding the area for several hours.

When fire crews arrived, the building was fully engulfed. No one was injured.

Country Sisters was a very popular Mennonite restaurant and gift shop.

Chief Richardson said a full investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office will be conducted, and the damage is estimated at roughly $750,000.
