High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

A Tara man is in custody after an overnight standoff.
Police were called to a home on John Street just before 9 p.m. Thursday because of a reported dispute. When police arrived, the suspect refused to cooperate.
Members of the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team and an OPP Canine Unit were also called to the scene to assist.
Just before 3:30 a.m. Friday, police entered the home and took the suspect into custody without incident.
James Telford, 36, of Arran-Elderslie Township was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The accused was held in custody pending the results of a bail hearing scheduled for Friday.
The charges have yet to be proven in court.
