UPDATE: Police recover body of missing swimmer at Elora Quarry

Wellington County OPP confirmed they have found the body of a male who went swimming at the Elora Quarry on Sunday.

Police were called around 4:45 p.m. to the Grand River Conservation Authority on Wellington Road 18, for a possible drowning. They were told a male went under the water and had not resurfaced. EMS responded but were unable to locate the individual. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit were then contacted to assist with the investigation.

The body was recovered Monday afternoon and has been identified by the OPP as 20-year-old John Daniel Howell of Amherstburg.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
