Wellington North and Minto choose to share fire chief

By a narrow 3-2 vote, Wellington North council has agreed to share a fire chief with Minto.

Minto Chief Chris Harrow will start his duties June 1, and replace Wellington North Fire Chief Dave Guilbault who is retiring at the end of the month after about six years on the job. He has been in fire fighting for 45 years.

Wellington North councillors Sherry Burke and Dan Yake opposed the sharing. Burke said Wellington North needs its own leadership.

The agreement between Minto and Wellington North will go to the end of the year at which time it will reassessed.

Mapleton is also considering joining in.
