Huron County OPP report fatal drug overdose

Huron County OPP officers and Paramedics responded to treat a drug overdose victim, who later died in hospital.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020, first responders arrived at a home on Main Street South in Exeter to assist a man found with vital signs absent.

The man was provided with immediate first aid at the scene, and then rushed to a local hospital, where the 41-year-old passed away.

A post-mortem examination is complete, but the results of toxicology tests to help determine the cause of death are not yet available.

In a release police said, "If you suspect someone is overdosing or is in need of medical attention, immediately call 9-1-1 and stay with the victim. It is extremely important to know what someone has ingested, not only for the safety of everyone responding, but to assist in determining the potential cause of death. Please remember the OPP supports Canada's Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act that provides protection from charges for individuals at the scene of a drug overdose for simple drug possession."
