Driver remains in critical condition after fiery crash

Huron County OPP are still investigating a fiery crash that took place west of Mount Carmel yesterday afternoon.

On October 1st at 1:30 p.m., officers responded alongside Lambton County Paramedic Services, Grand Bend Fire Department and Ornge Air to a crash at the intersection of Mount Carmel Drive (Huron County #5) and Grand Bend Road (Huron County #81).

The early investigation has revealed that a compact vehicle was westbound on Mount Carmel Drive when the driver lost control going around a curve in the roadway. The vehicle struck the ditch on the north side, collided with trees and then caught on fire. The lone occupant behind the wheel was extricated by firefighters and was airlifted to hospital.

The driver remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Huron County OPP continue to investigate with assistance from West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
