Minto supports Wellington County in aggregate debate

Minto is supporting a battle between Wellington County and its aggregate producers.

The County figures it is losing about $5.8-million in tax revenue because the method of assessing gravel pits is unfair. Minto council heard that some 100-acre gravel pit properties pay the same in property taxes as a single family home.

Minto Mayor George Bridge said the situation “doesn’t make sense”.

He added that Wellington County has been leading the battle for fair assessments for years.
