The Avon Maitland District School Board has announced it is cancelling final exams for secondary school students this year.
Superintendent Kate Creery said boards have always had the option of removing final exams but this year the Province has asked all boards to because of the possibility that they might have to shift from face-to-face learning to fully online almost instantly.
And they wouldn't be able to do exams remotely.
But Creery added that doesn't mean it's a free ride for students or that the integrity of the credit is being compromised.
“There will still be constant feed back, constant ways that kids are being assessed in their learning and getting small indications of what their mark is that will equal 100 per cent come the end of the quad-mester,” said Creery.
For older students, it's here understanding that most colleges and universities will use a rolling average of grades in Grades 11 and 12 to determine admissions, as they have in the past.
