Owen Sound families can join fire prevention event Thursday

The Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services is partnering with RONA Fulfords to host an educational event to teach children and adults how to prevent fires at home.

The family-friendly event will include giveaways, an information session on smoke alarms and fire escape planning. Owen Sound families will be able to meet and interact with members of the Fire and Emergency Services team who serve their community.

The event takes place Thursday, October 22, 2020, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.at RONA Fulfords Hardware on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound

"Working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are a key part of home fire escape planning," the City of Owen Sound said in a news release. "Investigations into residential fire deaths often find that a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm did not sound. The device may have been disconnected, not in working order, or the batteries may have been dead or removed from the device. Knowing and practicing your home fire escape plan can also save your life! Get out and stay out!"
