Hercules aircraft to mark Remembrance Day with Clinton fly-over

Wednesday's Remembrance Day ceremony in Clinton is going to include a fly-over by a Hercules aircraft.

Clinton resident, Matt Den Hollander has a friend who is a pilot with the Canadian Military. He also has a mutual friend who lives in Strathroy. The friend in Strathroy had made arrangements to fly a Canadian Military Hercules aircraft over Strathroy on Remembrance Day because so many of the Legions have had to cancel their normal ceremonies because of COVID-19.

“My friend from Strathroy mentioned it to the pilot and we're mutual friends too, so I said yeah, let's bring it to Huron County as well," Den Hollander said. "We thought it was a great idea because, with the social distancing, a lot of Legion activities, other Remembrance Day activities being cancelled and a good way to involve the kids.”

Den Hollander said his pilot friend call a couple of nights ago and asked him to get Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn's approval.

"I made the call the next morning and said, hey what do you think about a Canadian Military Hercules flying over your town at about 500 feet and his reaction was you know what, that the greatest news I've heard.”

So there will be a very large Canadian Military Hercules aircraft flying over Clinton at about 10:25 a.m. on Wednesday. It will also fly over Toronto, Barrie, Breslau, near Kitchener, South London and the Victoria Park, Cenotaph in London
