More information on proposed glass plant in Stratford wanted

A development agreement between a China-owned glass company and Stratford to build a huge facility in the city's south end has been deferred to an undetermined date.

A motion to defer passed 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon at a special meeting of council, with Mayor Dan Mathieson saying the deferral was due to "further investigation coming from the questions we are being asked over the last few days by members of the public".

An agreement between Stratford and Xinyi Glass Canada calls for a 173-acre, $400 million manufacturing facility to be constructed.

Mathieson says council is aiming to provide an information update at its next regular council meeting on Monday, November 23 .
