Owen Sound recognizes extraordinary citizens

The City of Owen Sound has handed out the 2020 Volunteer Awards.

The 2020 Volunteer of the Year is Liz Zetlin, who is described in a media release as an advocate for environmental issues, and a passionate local artist who spends the majority of her time volunteering in our community.

The 2020 Youth Volunteer of the Year is Lauren Radbourne, an exceptional local athlete nominated on behalf of Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse - Field Lacrosse. Her peers call her a role model, and a leader with exceptional communication skills.

The 2020 Senior of the Year is Fred Geberdt who has been an integral contributor to the Sydenham Sportsmen’s Association for over 30 years.

"Our community is an amazing place to live because of the effort of our volunteers. We thank all of the citizens who provide their time and energy, while expecting very little in return. We are pleased to recognize these three special volunteers for 2020." said Mayor Ian Boddy.

To limit capacity in Council Chambers, the presentation was pre-recorded and played during Monday's council meeting. The awards are normally given out earlier in the year, but were delayed due to the pandemic.
