Vehicle theft leads to drug and weapon charges in West Grey

Police in West Grey arrested a pair of thieves who crashed a stolen delivery truck in Durham on Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., police were notified that a vehicle being used for a delivery service was stolen on Garafraxa Street South.

Not long after the vehicle went missing, the driver lost control and crashed into a property on Saddler Street East. The two suspects attempted to flee when bystanders intervened and detained one of the thieves until officers arrived.

Following a brief search of the area, police located and arrested the second suspect.

Marcus David Wilson, 29, and Michelle Nicole Vandenakker, 32, both of Owen Sound, were charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Separately, Wilson has been charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine, and two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order. Vandenakker faces an additional charge of possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

Officers are thanking the public for their assistance.
