Police lay charges in assault investigation

One man faces charges while a warrant is out for another man after an alleged assault on New Year's Eve in Port Elgin.

Police say a man was assaulted after two suspects entered the home of the victim around 11:30 p.m. on December 31. Investigators state while the victim tried to treat his injuries at home, they were too serious and friends later took him to hospital.

It was determined the victim suffered significant internal injuries.

On January 1, one of the suspects, a 38-year old Port Elgin man, was arrested and charged. A warrant is out for a second suspect.

The charges have yet to be proven in court.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
