Kincardine Council appoints Ward 3 councillor

A new Ward 3 Councillor has been appointed in Kincardine.

The vote was held during a virtual Special Meeting Wednesday evening. With a majority vote by the 7 councillors present, Dorne C. Fitzsimmons was appointed to the vacant position.

The position was declared vacant November 16th, 2020. It was left vacant by the appointment of Randy Roppel to the position of Deputy Mayor after that seat was left vacant by the passing of Marie Wilson.

There were 10 candidates in total, each given the opportunity to present themselves to Council during the meeting before the vote.

Fitzsimmons is a lifelong municipality of Kincardine resident, and moved to Tiverton in 1982. He ran for the village council in 1985. In 1988, with the resignation of the Reeve, he was appointed to that position and held it until he stepped down in 1995.

Fitzsimmons also has experience as a member of the Planning Advisory Committee, Kincardine Community Fund, Recreation Committee, among others.

Mayor, Anne Eadie, welcomed Fitzsimmons to council, saying his knowledge and experience will be an asset for the municipality.

Fitzsimmons will be officially sworn in before Kincardine council’s next meeting, January 11th.
