The Ausable Bayfiled Conservation Authority will be joining two American organizations to study water quality in the lower Great Lakes.
Mari Veliz is the Healthy Watershed Manager with Ausable Bayfield.
She will be joining a group that includes the University of Michigan, the National Atmospheric Oceanic Administration and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
She explains satellite imagery and aerial photography show sediment plumes flowing from Lake Huron into the lower lakes.
"So what is required is to go out and test some of this plume to better understand what is the contribution of nutrients to the down stream of Lake Huron through Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River into Lake Erie," said Veliz.
Veliz says they hope to start taking samples this summer.
