The Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth Public Health says the first master vaccination plan for the two counties has been submitted to General Hillier.
Doctor Miriam Klassen says that will now be reviewed and they should have their final plan by January 31st. Doctor Klassen says that plan will build on what the former Perth District Health Unit and Huron County Health Unit have done in terms of mass vaccination clinics in the past.
“During H1N1 we would vaccinate several hundred people a day and typically we would partner with municipal partners to find spaces that can facilitate that and with all of the physical distancing requirements in COVID again, we will need very large spaces,” Klassen said.
Doctor Klassen adds, final decisions about where those will happen will also depend on how much vaccine comes in and how quickly.
"We'll look at all those sites again, which ones are big enough for a COVID clinic and, depending on how many people we want to vaccinate in one day, which depends on the supply,” she said.
There is a Huron Perth Mass Vaccination Advisory Committee in place that includes representation from across the health care sector and they'll be looking at all of the options to make sure they're able to deliver the vaccine in an equitable way across the community.
