Ontario Fire Marshal investigating motel fire in Perth East

The Ontario Fire Marshal is on the scene today to investigate a major fire at the Forest Motel near Stratford.

Perth East Fire Prevention Officer James Marshall says firefighters from three stations were on scene for twelve hours yesterday fighting the blaze. A person who was found at the scene when firefighters arrived was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Marshall is joining the Ontario Fire Marshal on the scene to try to determine the cause and total damage.

"And at that point we're start to get a better idea of what we're looking at. The entire attic and roof space has been consumed by fire, but everything from the eaves down was saved by the fire department," he explained.

He says the windy winter weather made the battle a challenge.

"The roads on getting there safely with our vehicles to make sure the firefighters are safe. And then yesterday with the wind blowing from the east it certainly hinder the impact of us getting the fire knocked down in the roof, as the wind was blowing the fire further into the structure.
