Airport task force looking at ways to maximize airstrip use near Goderich

Goderich Mayor John Grace says the Airport Task Force is looking at a number of ways it can maximize use of the airstrip near Goderich.

Grace says the airport is a valuable resource and they're doing their best to help it grow, starting with the creation of a long term business plan.

"We're looking at every angle we can to make sure that we have long term sustainability for the airport and that it can, maybe someday, turn into a regional model. So we're just trying to re-imagine an airport in 2025," said Grace.

Grace says rural airports in Ontario are struggling right now and the Task Force includes representatives from the county, Goderich and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

One of the other issues involve re-zoning applications for properties near the airport. It technically lies in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanash.

"There is a re-zoning application before A-C-W right now to have two of the properties re-zoned for, probably, an industrial usage and we have some concerns from the Airport Task Force of what that might mean to the airport," added Grace.
