New COVID-19 vaccine appointments not available in Huron, Perth

New appointments for COVID-19 shots at mass vaccination clinics in Huron and Perth counties are currently unavailable.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen says this is due to a decrease in the supply of doses expected from the province.

"Huron Perth Public Health had hoped to expand vaccine eligibility to adults aged 60 and over this week, but based on the latest estimates from the province about our vaccine supply, we're not able to move forward yet. I do expect that at some point our supply will increase and we will be ready for that."

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen asks residents to remain patient, as everyone who wants a vaccine will still get one.

As of Friday nearly 29,500 vaccine doses have been administered in Huron-Perth.

Klassen adds the region is seeing an increase in cases, and that is likely to continue for a few weeks.

That is because she said it typically takes about two weeks for strengthened public-health measures such as the province wide lockdown to take effect.

As of Monday, there were 49 active cases of COVID-19 in Huron and Perth and 145 people were self-isolating.
