Eligible residents in Huron Perth are once again able to book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccine.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says this comes at a good time as cases surge in Huron Perth and surrounding regions.
"We remain at risk while community transmission is not controlled elsewhere," said Dr. Klassen. "Further restrictions are difficult, however we need to continue to work together to break the chains of transmission while vaccinating as many people as possible in order to prevent as many hospitalizations and deaths as possible."
HPPH has added about 1,400 vaccine appointments during the week of May 4th at their two mass immunization clinics in Stratford and Goderich.
Eligible groups continue to be adults 65 and older, Indigenous persons 16 and older and members of their immediate households, residents 16 and older with high-risk health conditions, and high-priority health-care and education workers.
Dr. Klassen adds we shouldn't be comparing local case numbers with other regions, and explains it is important to follow provincial lockdown rules despite Huron Perth having fewer cases than hotspot areas.
"I worry a little bit sometimes that it's turning into a competition of 'us versus them', rather than us all working together. This is still something that we're facing together as a province."
