Student rental concerns in Central Huron

A representative from Ridgetown College addressed Central Huron Council this week about the housing shortage in Clinton and around the county.

Central Huron Mayor, Jim Ginn, agrees it is a problem now and definitely could be a challenge this fall for students attending the Ridgetown College campus at the Reach Centre.

"Part of the problem is COVID, you know people are a little more hesitant to rent out a room or an upstairs to a student they may not know. But hopefully by fall that has subsided and we're all hoping everything's good by then," said Ginn.

But Ginn adds, the other part of the problem is the housing shortage that exists in most of southern Ontario.

"But we also know that we have a housing shortage right across Huron County and a lot of southern Ontario, so that housing shortage is also part of the problem. So if anyone knows of someone or could help us out, that'd be much appreciated," added Ginn.

Ginn says anyone who has rooms to rent can contact the municipality through their web page.
