Police pat-down leads to drug arrest in Port Elgin

A Saugeen Shores man has been charged after a police pat-down led to a seizure of suspected fentanyl.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service said on June 9 at around 7:10 p.m., officers responded to a report of an intoxicated man in the area of Bluewater Drive in the Town of Port Elgin.

The officers located a man who is known to police walking down the street and stopped him. A pat-down was conducted by the officers to ensure their safety, at which time two containers fell from the man's clothing. The containers allegedly held 43 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Following an investigation, it was also determined that the suspect was wanted on a warrant for a separate matter.

As a result, a 32-year-old Saugeen Shores man has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was held in custody for a bail hearing before being remanded into custody with a future court date.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
