COVID-19 outbreak declared at Kelso Villa Retirement Home

The Grey-Bruce Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Kelso Villa Retirement Home in Owen Sound.

In a release from August 9th, the GBHU says six cases, one staff and five residents, have caused the outbreak declaration. All six people were fully vaccinated, and all have extremely mild symptoms. The GBHU goes on to say in the release that given the transmissibility of the Delta variant, this outbreak could have been much worse, and if no one was vaccinated, it's highly likely all 108 residents would be infected by now.

GBHU is now working with Kelso Villa to do contact tracing and all six cases in this outbreak are isolating. They also state that "this incident highlights the necessity of reaching vaccine targets to protect everyone from COVID-19 and variants."
