OPP search for double hit and run suspect in Georgian Bluffs

Provincial police in Grey Bruce County are searching for a suspect accused of fleeing from the scene of a crash twice in the span of an hour.

At around 3 p.m. Monday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a crash involving a cyclist on Grey Road 1 near Indian Acres Road outside of Owen Sound.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle that hit the cyclist left the scene. Emergency crews arrived and transported the cyclist to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

About half an hour later, OPP received a call about another collision not far from the first on Balmy Beach Road this time involving a stationary vehicle. The driver fled from the area before officer's arrived. No one was injured during the second incident.

Following both hit and runs, police say they are searching for a vehicle described as a red SUV, possibly a Toyota Rav 4 or Nissan Qashqai. The vehicle will have sustained damage to the passenger side, including a mirror that may be hanging off or missing.

OPP were in the area most of the afternoon searching for the suspect vehicle and residents may notice an increased police presence in the area while the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Grey Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
