Man pronounced dead after a hydro line falls on a car

A man died at a golf course in the Erin area, as he tried to put out a fire started by a hydro line that fell on a car.

Wellington OPP, Town of Erin Fire Service, Hydro One and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services were called to the golf course around 6:10 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say a storm passing through the area brought down a power line on an unoccupied vehicle, sparking a small fire.

A man tried to put out the fire and when he approached the vehicle, he suddenly collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He's been identified as William Elliott, 59, of Halton Hills.

A post-mortem is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
