Missing canoeist in Dyers Bay found deceased

The Grey-Bruce OPP have confirmed that a missing canoeist in Dyers Bay has been found deceased.

On October 4th at 3:15 p.m., the OPP Under Water Search and Recovery Unit recovered the body of a missing canoeist in Dyers Bay. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Steven Shantz of St. Clements. On October 3rd at 3 p.m., officers alongside Bruce Peninsula EMS and the Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department were dispatched to canoeists in distress near Dyers Bay Road, in the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. One canoeist was rescued by a paddle boarder.

Members of the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton and West Region OPP Emergency Response Team assisted with the search.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
