Bruce County ready to consider development charges bylaw

A public information session reported Bruce County's proposed development charges would help recover the cost of growth.

Growth costs help pay for new infrastructure that supports expansion, and helps pay down existing debt for past projects to support new development

The development charges save taxpayers from paying for costs that support growth.

The intent is to establish a reasonable amount of Development Charges for currently identified growth pressures and to provide capacity for studies that will identify and quantify other current and future growth pressures.

Bruce County is looking at a charge of nearly $64hundred for a single detached home, and $1.88 per square foot for non residential development.

Council will consider a development charges bylaw November 4th.

Over the next 16 years Bruce County is expected to see nearly 17,000 new residents, and over 7500 new homes.
