Goderich task force to look at rental bylaw

Goderich council has formed a task force to look into problems with short term rentals in the town.

Mayor John Grace says they have a bylaw in place but the task force is to come up with some current solutions to the problem.

Grace says he's heard from some people who are in favour of them and he's heard some complaints.

“It might change the neighbourhood because you have people coming in and out of your neighbourhood that aren't full-time residents there, does it change the dynamics, noise complaints, parking issues, all that kind of stuff and neighbourhoods find it very disruptive," said Grace.

Grace says the task force is pretty well balanced between for and against short rentals and they'll bring their recommendations back to council.

“The task force will come up with suggestions for council to consider going forward. We have a bylaw in place now, but it's quite antiquated and there's lots of discussion on both sides,” added Grace.
