One person was pronounced dead after a fire in Meaford

One person was pronounced dead at a house fire in the Municipality of Meaford.

Saturday night's fire was on the 10th Concession, and reported around 10:50 p.m.

The Inter Township Fire Department, Chatsworth Fire Department, Grey Bruce OPP and Grey County Emergency Medical Services all responded to the scene. They found the home to be fully engulfed when they arrived.

The identity of the victim is being withheld while police try to contact next of kin.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Fire Marshal.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
