COVID-19 outbreak at local school declared over

A COVID-19 outbreak at a local school has been declared over by Grey-Bruce Health Unit.

In a release, the health unit says that the outbreak at Holland Chatsworth Central School, in Holland Centre, was declared over on Monday, December 13th. The health unit worked closely with the Bluewater District School Board during the outbreak, and the release states that "there remains robust daily screening, enhanced Infection Control practices and other regulations in place to maintain safety."

Grey-Bruce Health Unit says that an outbreak is declared when there is "evidence of transmission from person to person within the school environment." The release shares that 3 total cases acquired the virus within Holland Chatsworth Central School and 9 cases who go to the school acquired the virus in the community, resulting in a total of 163 high risk contacts.

“We have so far over 2600 cases in Grey Bruce. About a dozen of whom acquired the virus in the school environment," says Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health for Grey Bruce. “Schools remain one of the safest places to work and attend during the COVID-19 pandemic in Grey and Bruce. They are definitely safer than our homes."
