Police lay charges following assault with a weapon

One person is facing charges following a recent assault in Vanastra.

Huron County OPP say that on December 2nd at 11 p.m., officers were called to a residence located on 12th Street in Vanastra to investigate an alleged domestic disturbance that was taking place. An investigation into the incident resulted in police arresting one individual for Assault with a Weapon. Further investigation revealed the accused was violating a probation order and court release, as well.

As a result, a 29-year-old from Huron East has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Failure to Comply with a Release Order and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. The accused has since been released from custody. the charges have yet to be proven in court.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
